چکیده

Ever since the seminal work of Penrose (1969) and Blandford & Znajek (1977), it has been realized that black hole spin may be an important energy source in astrophysics. X-ray observations are uniquely able to answer: Does black hole spin play a crucial role in powering relativistic jets such as those seen from radio-loud active galactic nuclei (AGN), Galactic microquasars, and Gamma-Ray Bursts? Indeed, the radio-loud/radio-quiet dichotomy in the AGN population is usually attributed to differences in black hole spin (with correlations between black hole spin and host galaxy morphology being hypothesized in order to explain why radioloud AGN occur in early-type galaxies; see Figure 1, drawn from Sikora et al. 2007).

Calculation of the relativistic bulk tensor and shear tensor of relativistic accretion flows in the Kerr metric.

In this paper, we calculate the relativistic bulk tensor and shear tensor of the relativistic accretion ows in the Kerr metric, overall and without any approximation. We obtain the relations of all components of the relativistic bulk and shear tensor in terms of components of four-velocity and its derivatives, Christoffel symbols and metric components in the BLF. Then, these components are deri...

Relativistic X-ray Lines from the Inner Accretion Disks Around Black Holes

Relativistic X-ray emission lines from the inner accretion disk around black holes are reviewed. Recent observations with the Chandra X-ray Observatory, X-ray MultiMirror Mission-Newton, and Suzaku are revealing these lines to be good probes of strong gravitational effects. A number of important observational and theoretical developments are highlighted, including evidence of black hole spin an...

Stellar-mass Black Hole Spin Constraints from Disk Reflection and Continuum Modeling

Accretion disk reflection spectra, including broad iron emission lines, bear the imprints of the strong Doppler shifts and gravitational red-shifts close to black holes. The extremity of these shifts depends on the proximity of the innermost stable circular orbit to the black hole, and that orbit is determined by the black hole spin parameter. Modeling relativistic spectral features, then, give...

Energy Extraction from Spinning Black Holes Via Relativistic Jets

It has for long been an article of faith among astrophysicists that black hole spin energy is responsible for powering the relativistic jets seen in accreting black holes. Two recent advances have strengthened the case. First, numerical general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic simulations of accreting spinning black holes show that relativistic jets form spontaneously. In at least some cases, t...

Analogue Hawking Radiation from Astrophysical Black Hole Accretion

We show that spherical accretion onto astrophysical black holes can be considered as a natural example of analogue system. We provide, for the first time, an exact analytical scheme for calculating the analogue Hawking temperature and surface gravity for general relativistic accretion onto astrophysical black holes. Our calculation may bridge the gap between the theory of transonic astrophysica...
